Tips For Balancing Blogging And School

I did one of these posts last year but that was when I could spend every day blogging. Now with the Leaving Cert coming up in 2018, I have to have a plan to get my blog together and so I can continue posting. Here are some of my tips, if you could call them that, of how I balance school and blogging.

Twitter Chats Go Out The Window

I love Twitter chats, they are great and it's a wonderful way to find new bloggers. I can count using my two hands how many chats I have participated since the start of January. It is impossible for me to find a spare hour during the week between homework, homework and other after school activities. If I do have time for a Twitter chat, I am either too tired or lazy to participate in one. During the weekends, it is slightly different. I have been able to do one or two.

Schedule Everything!

I schedule everything, my blog posts, my YouTube videos, my Tweets and my Instagram posts. The only thing that I can't schedule is Snapchat, for obvious reasons. I love being able to schedule stuff, so even if I am not on social media at that moment at least it doesn't look like I have disappeared off the face of the earth. I love to use Hootsuite to schedule stuff it is great for Twitter but it can be a bit temperamental for Instagram

This year, I am trying to become more organised by having a To Do List notebook and a diary. So far they both have been great as I can write up all my to dos and whatever else is going on in my life. This has helped me find time to get some blogging done.

Set Time For Blogging

This has been one of my strategies since September. Every Friday after school, I spend 1-2 hours catching up on blog posts, reading and replying to comments, replying to emails and planning for the weekend. This helps so much as then I know what I need to do for the weekend.

Take Photos in Bulk

I used to think this was weird to do but now it is the only way I am able to get photos taken for my blog or Instagram. I take photos for the next 3 posts, I would get sick of it if I
did more, and I also do 3-4 for Instagram. This is great for if the weather is bad one weekend and you need take photos or if you were busy a particular weekend.

Plan Your Posts

I like to have my posts planned for the next 2 months. I won't start them until around a month before they are published but I like to have the topic picked so I don't have to worry about what I am supposed to be doing. I don't set them in stone either, sometimes if I'm not feeling writing about something I will change it around to suit. I hope to do a blog post in the future about the planning that goes into making a blog post.

How do you balance school and blogging? Or blogging and work?

My To Read List

I haven't done one of these in ages, the last one I did was in November 2015, click HERE. I love to read and I have noticed that my to read list on GoodReads has been filling up and I thought I would share it with you.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I am currently back on track to finish the Harry Potter series, I am now reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince so this one is the last one. I already have this book as I got it for Christmas a few years ago when I was reading the series for the first time. I don't remember much from reading the book so I am looking forward to diving back into the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I bought this three days after it was released and I still haven't read it yet. I have good reason for it too. For the past 8 months I have been reading the Harry Potter series and I didn't want to read a sequel to a series I haven't finished yet, I don't do well with time travel! I have heard a lot about it mostly that it is hard to read as it is in script form, I don't think I will find it too difficult as I have been reading scripts for the past 8 years.

Fantasic Beast and Where To Find Them Screenplay

Another script. I loved the movie and when I saw it half price in Dubray, I had to get it. Dubray is a Dublin book store chain which is so much better that Easons in my opinion. I can't wait to read yet another script and I doubt I will be reading these one after another as I might need a break.

Mafiosa (Blood For Blood Saga #3)

This is the final book in the Blood For Blood Saga and I am devastated. This series has been by far my favourite written by an Irish author. I had it pre-ordered since October on Amazon and it arrived 3 weeks ago. I found that the series is a really good easy read that it enjoyable. I have this near the top of my to read list.

Gone Girl

My cousin recommended me the book and also the movie. I have heard a lot of good things about Gone Girl and I remember someone said it is slightly similar to The Girl On The Train. I haven't read many books in the mystery or thriller genre, so this one will be interesting to see if I would like it.

The Book Thief

I have The Book Thief on my Kindle for the past few years and I have never finished it. I remember getting maybe 75% finished and for some reason I stopped reading it. I remember loving the movie as well as the book. Hopefully this time I will actually get it read fully.

Orange Is The New Black

This is the memoir that the hit Netflix original is based on. Since I don't have Netflix I can't watch the show but I have seen the first season. It is going to be interesting to see how accurate the series is to the book, did Netflix just use it for inspiration or is it actually a more accurate representation of the memoir.

Crown Of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)

I had the first book in this series in my December and January Edition and I loved reading it. Since it is the first book it took me a while to get into but the ending is amazing. I am looking forward to moving along in the series to see what happens to Celaena.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

Another book that has been turned into a movie and I have seen neither. I have heard quite a bit about the book as it has photos dispersed randomly in the book which is cool as I haven't read a book like that since I was about 10.

What books are on you To Read list?

New In Beauty Collab With Ailbhe

Since with Christmas and all, I have been adding to my beauty collection for first time in maybe 6 months. I really wanted to treat myself to some new makeup bits and pieces. This is a collab with Ailbhe from The Red Brunette, make sure to check out her post HERE. Ailbhe is a fellow Irish blogger, that has a unique and awesome name. She is currently studying in UCC and her blog posts and snaps get me so excited to go to college.

Blank Canvas Cosmetic Brushes

I have heard so much about Blank Canvas Cosmetics for the past number of years but I have never bought anything from them now. After Christmas there was a 30% Off Sale and I need some new brushes to add to my collection. In total, I bought 4 brushes and a travel holder.

F25 Large Powder/Bronzer Brush, I have been using it for powder and I love it. It is a dense brush but not overly dense that you feel like you are poking yourself. I love to sweep my powder around my face to set my foundation and concealer.

E26 Blending Brush, I feel like you can never have enough blending brushes especially when you are trying to get your eyeshadow game on point. I love how soft it is. I have tried it out on one occasion and I love how seamlessly it blends out eyeshadow.

E24 Flat Shader/Lay Down Brush, I already have one of these brushes from Eco-Tools but I always find that when I want to add a light shimmer eyeshadow into my inner corner I can't as my brush is filthy and it won't turn out right. It packs the eyeshadow onto the lid to give a strong pigment.

E30 Double Ended Brow/Spoolie, I have wanted a decent brow brush for ages and this one suited my needs. I wanted something double ended, so it wouldn't fall to the bottom of my makeup bag. I love the angled brush, it packs on the product without giving you the boxy eyebrow look. I find the spoolie is a little harsh at the moment but I presume it will soften after a wash or two.

NYX Tame & Frame in Brunette

I have heard so many people raving about Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade and I knew I would love to try it until I saw the price tag. I wanted to find a drugstore dupe to use if I liked it and what shade I would be as I didn't want to make the mistake of getting the wrong shade and spending €20 in the process.

Soap & Glory Total Drama Clean Makeup Remover

I have finally jumped on the Micellar Water bandwagon two years later. My intended purpose for this makeup remover is to spot clean my eyeshadow brushes but I know I will start using it to remove my makeup when I'm too tired to do it properly. I haven't tried much from Soap & Glory but I have heard so much about their other products, this one is bound to be good. I haven't used it much but when I have, I have been happy with how it cleans my eyeshadow brushes, it leaves them nearly squeaky clean.

Makeup Revolution Pro Base Priming Base

When I saw Makeup Revolution in a local chemist, I knew I had to try out something. I picked up the primer water as I needed a new primer and I thought it was worth a shot. Compared to cream/gel primers, primer water is so refreshing and I feel that it hydrates my skin or at least makes it look and feel better.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam

Here's another bandwagon that I have jumped on a bit on the late side of things. Before Christmas, I was looking for a nice red lipstick as I wanted something festive looking and I didn't have anything like a red lipstick in my collection. I have fallen in love with Amsterdam, the city as well, it is a beautiful off red that suits my pale skin wonderfully. It lasts ages and the only time I have to reapply is after I have eaten a meal.

Make sure to check out Ailbhe's post! She also runs an amazing Snapchat, I really wish I could be that good at Snapchat, find her at ailbhe_woods. She is also on Instagram and Twitter, both ailbhe_woods.

Have you bought any new beauty products?

My blog has turned 2 years old, isn't that crazy!

The December and January Edition

It's time for another Edition. Here's some things I have been doing and loving recently.

The Ugly Sisters and Yer Wan Panto

The weekend before going back to school from the Christmas holidays, my family and I went up to Dublin to meet up with relations to see a panto in the Olympia Theatre. We had gone to the Olympia Panto the year before and absolutely loved it as it had my favourite comedian, Al Porter. He was back doing it again and this year still making hilarious jokes and keeping everyone else on their toes. As usual with a panto, there're loads of political jokes thrown in with the occasional politician showing up, I wonder who Lord Trumpet was? It was a hilarious night with scenes being cut off last minute to Al leaving a portable railing on stage and breaking it. For my 18th birthday, I hope to go to one of his shows.

Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them

I thought I would get to see this in the first week or two when it came out but no as usual I was too busy to go see it. I went to see Fantastic Beasts on New Years Eve and loved it. I loved the expansion of the wizarding world and a prequel to Harry Potter. Eddie Redmayne played Newt amazingly and gets that awkwardness down to a T. I have the screenplay and it is now way down on my TBR list but I hope to have it read during the Summer.

Canon Powershot SX420 IS

For Christmas, I received a camera which I love and adore. I have been taking all my blog and Instagram pictures using it in the past month and have also used it for recording YouTube videos. I still have no idea what everything does but I will eventually get around to learning all the ins and outs of it.

If you saw my My Travels: Tenerife post, you would already know all about my stay and my thoughts of Tenerife. Looking back on it now one month later, it was a lovely break away from the miserable weather of Ireland and I loved being able to celebrate Christmas in a different place. Of course, there were a few things I didn't really like and that happens for most places that I go to, except London as London is one of my favourite cities.

Seventeen Skin Wow 3 Way Highlighter

I have been using this as a primer the past few months and I love it. It gives a subtle glow, so subtle that it was nearly impossible to photograph and that's why I don't have a swatch. I place a small amount of product on my forehead, down my nose and my cheekbones. It looks amazing under foundation and gives a very natural glow. I haven't tried mixing it with foundation yet as I don't want an overall glow but once we get into the Summer months, I will definitely be trying that out.

Flormar Triple Action Mascara

I bought this mascara in November when I decided to treat myself to a new one and also all my other mascaras were more than a year old. Apart from the rose gold packaging there is a lot more to it. This mascara claims to be volumizing, curling and lengthening and I think it does a good job at all three. At the top of the tube there is a dial that can be turned to change the wand into different sizes.

I used to use three mascaras to try to get a fluttery lash look and this goes beyond those. Even though it doesn't state it is waterproof, I feel it is as I have cried with it on 4 times and it hasn't budged.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

I received this from my Aunt for Christmas and I love it. It has taken me a while to get into but Throne of Glass has a very interesting plot. It is about an assassin, Celaena Sardothien, who has been picked to be in a competition to win her freedom. I have finished the book and I have heard reviews that compared Throne of Glass to The Hunger Games but personally I don't see it.

Spotify Premium

I have been loving using Spotify for the past month and a half, I was getting bored to listening to the same 30 songs on my music and my brother has been raving about how good Spotify Premium is, so I bit the bullet and purchased it. I have been listening to it everyday going to and from school and as I am doing some blogging or getting ready in the morning. Here is my most used playlist where I have a mixture of songs from Shawn Mendes to Queen.

As part of my Leaving Cert Music course, one of the set works is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. I have completely fallen in love with the band and with the song. I have been listening to all their biggest hits like We Are The Champions, Don't Stop Me Now and We Will Rock You.

My YouTube Channel

I haven't been very active on my YouTube channel the past while dies to Christmas Tests among other things, I have 1 cover up which is Mr. Brightside by The Killers. I have been loving this song recently and I started playing it on the Ukulele for the craic. I have another video going up very soon.
