'A Work In Progress' by Connor Franta Review

Bonjour Mes Amis,
When I heard that Connor Franta was going to release a book, the first thing I thought was 'another YouTuber really?' and 'I hope this book actually feels as if he is reading it to me.'
Before I dive into this book, I would like to comment about the cover. I love the inlet triangle, it is so unique. The only thing that annoys me (only a little) is the quality of the cover, it feels like a mixture between card and normal copying paper. But let's get on to the good bit!

I really enjoyed this book especially as I was reading it and I would come to a section and think 'that is so Connor that would say that!'
We're in one big social media room together. This is my channel. Don't touch it.

Then life got a little weird. Hell, who am I kidding? It got really weird, really quickly.

(Side note: Does any breathing human even use that phrase anymore- heebie jeebies? I know I normally don't. Who am I? Who are you?? How did I get here??? GO AWAY!)

After Living it up my education at St. Peter's for nine years, it was time to get the heck out of there and move on to bigger (hardly) and better (hardly) things: high school *dramatically zooms in, screams; horror music plays in the background*.
I loved the writing style of this book because it was casual and enjoyable as if you were talking to a friend. Also, the pictures add so much more to this memoir (as you can see above), from when he was a small kid up to now. Connor gives a lot of advice like in 2 of his chapters 'Respect for My Elders' and how he cherishes his elders and 'It Gets Better. Really.' where he tells us that things do and will get better.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and if you like Connor Franta's videos or you just want to find out about the life of a YouTuber, go check it out.

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

I feel there are a hundred and one ways to wash make-up brushes. You can buy brush cleaner liquid, brush cleaning gloves, baby shampoo or get the small bars of soap they have in hotels (I do this one). Before you jump to conclusions, I do not go into a hotel and steal a bag of their little bars of soap, if I am ever staying in a hotel and there are spares in the room, I will keep them (I think everyone always takes something like the shower caps etc. from hotels but that is why they are there, to be used or taken).

I wash my brushes every 2 weeks as I used to wash them every month but I found on the 3rd week they would get horribly dirty and sometimes I would break out from them.

Firstly I get a towel as I don't want to get water everywhere. I then get two containers of water (One warm and one cold) and the soap.

I organise my brushes from not used to it's not white any more (cleanest to dirtiest).

I dip the brushes into the warm water and lather it on the soap until the suds are white. Then I swirl the brush on the back of my hand making sure there is no soap left in the brush (this has happened to me before and it was awful!). Some of my brushes (mostly my foundation brushes) have to be washed a few times to make sure all the make-up and bacteria are gone.

I lay the brush pointing downwards at a slope, just in case any water got into the handle of the brush it could flow out. I then leave them to dry overnight and they are really soft the next morning.

DIY Body Scrub

I hate spending ridiculous money on things that can be easily made. Since I am a student on a budget, I decided I needed to find a body scrub recipe that could be made at home with ingredients that are cheap and easy to access. 

I have been using this scrub for about a month and I really like it. Just to note, my skin isn't sensitive and I like gritty scrubs. If you have sensitive skin or dislike gritty scrubs, use caster sugar or something else that isn't that harsh.

Things You Need:
Golden granulated sugar
Sunflower oil
Vanilla essence
  • Make sure your container is clean and has the dust or product in it.
  • I normally kinda eyeball the amount of each ingredient but I normally put 2 tablespoons of sugar to 1 tablespoon of oil. It depends on how you want your scrub to be.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla essence to make it smell nice.
  • Mix well and pour into container.

This is what it looks like, I know it looks weird but it makes your skin so soft

This amount of scrub lasts me about a week (2-3 uses). I just find it easier to make it in smaller quantities as I don't have any bigger containers to use. I use this scrub on my arms and legs, I personally wouldn't use this on my face as I think it would be too harsh.

TY Thursday #2 Junior Cert Results

It has felt like ages since I sat down in an exam hall and pour my brains out onto a piece of paper but here we are just a week after the JC results were handed out in envelopes and the anticipation of what results you get.  But before I go into too much detail I should tell you about what I did the rest of the week.

Monday 7th: I had my first yearbook class, this year TYs are taking charge of what goes into this years' yearbook which is something I wanted to do anyway. A rep for Student Enterprise Board came to talk to my school to speak about the mini-company and the competition that we will be competing in. Since my group was half organised, we made a to do list and sorted out what everyone was going to do.

Tuesday 8th: I had work experience which I was making business cards, compliment slips and letter header for a made up company 'Sweet Treats'. For Gaisce (Which is a program for people aged 15-25 to help the communities and to try new things) in the physical activity I decided to do kick boxing as I had never really done an individual sport before. So far (after 1 session), I really enjoy it and I will be doing it twice a week, hopefully for the whole year. 

Wednesday 9th: JC Result Day *dramatic music* I wasn't really too nervous, I just kept as cool as a cucumber! My nervousness grew from a 0 on Tuesday to a 10 five minutes before they even handed out the envelopes! I wasn't that nervous as some people, one of my friends didn't even sleep the night before. When everyone had their envelope, we did a countdown. 10...9....8...7...6..5...4...3...2...1.. Most people ripped open their envelope to feast their eyes on what was inside but there were a few who went to a quiet place to open their results by themselves. I ripped mine open right then and there, I looked down as I pulled up the paper. I was so happy with all my results especially in Irish (I got a C) and Maths (I got a B! The grinds I was getting paid off). All together I got 8Bs and 3Cs. I was so delighted.


That evening I went to see the movie Ricki And The Flash with a few close friends and afterwards we went to Papa Johns for pizza. We had so much fun as we were the only people in that screen. I have no photos of that evening as I feel that sometimes you should live in the moment and don't bother trying to take random photos.

Thursday 10th: Only 8 people out of my whole year (of 80) came in. I was in the computer room most of the day, doing 2 pages for the yearbook and doing a few bits for TY mini company.

You could say this week has been eventful!

August Favourites 2015

Hello Fabulous Internet!
Another month has come and gone and with each month, there is a monthly favourites! Surprisingly, I haven't got that many favourites this month but lets get started.

I featured this in my February Favourites but for a few months I stopped using it. I recently tried it out and fell in love once again with this product. I don't know why but it is actually one of the mascaras that you can add a few layers and it will look fab without having spider leg lashes. The only downside to this is the price, it is €23.00 (and that is kinda expensive for a mascara) but if I can get my hands on a sample set, I will definitely be getting it.

I love this stuff. If you want something that is a great spot treatment and is natural, go for this. I don't know why but this month my skin has been plotting its revenge on me (for some reason or another) and I had been getting loads of spots on my chin and forehead. This has helped get rid of the spots quicker than others and reduces redness. 

I used to not moisturise any part of my body apart from my face as I was lazy. One day when I was out shopping I decided to get one as it was half price and my skin was feeling quite tight. This is invented for people who don't always like waiting for their body lotion to absorb and for the lazy people out there (Me!). All you do is spray this all over your body and rub it in.

I think this is cute but simple notebook. I have started journalling this month, I try to write about something every day, sometimes it can be hard to think up of something to write about and other times its really easy. I find that this notebook is the perfect size to write in.

TY Thursday #1

Bonjour mes amis!
I have finally started Transition Year! I got the inspiration to do TY Thursdays because I loved reading Grace's TY Thursday posts and I also want to document as much as possible from TY. I am looking forward to this year of trying out new things and just not have to worry about school.

I started on Monday and that day was mostly an information day and then we went to some of our classes. This year there are creative options which are yearbook, public speaking, SciFest and Junk Kouture. I also get to try out all the leaving cert subjects which I have mixed emotions about. This term my subject option is yearbook and my subject options are chemistry, home ec and art.

On Tuesday, I had my first day of work experience which I was a little nervous about. I had work experience in a local design and print company, I had to do some typing and learned how to use Photoshop (which is amazing until you see the price!).

On Wednesday, it was the usual classes, not very exciting. On Thursday, my whole year (80 of us) had a bonding/team building day. Since we have been a group for the past 3 years you think you know everyone but actually you don't. I found today very interesting and I think it will help us bond!
The only downfall was having to wear our school PE uniforms which I absolutely hate! The only thing I can't complain about is the PE shirt as it looks ok and feels ok but the tracksuit bottoms and jumper are my worst enemies, they don't fit nicely and even though they are unisex, they are more designed for guys than girls. 

This year, I have to do a profolio of what I did all year and it is being graded at the end (eek!). I put in photos of events, leaflets, sheets and anything you can think of. I think this is amazing as it is kinda like a memory journal and I want it to be crammed with stuff at the end of the year.

I hope you enjoyed my first TY Thursday, I don't know how often I am going to does these but it should be at least once a month.
